Marijuana Needs To Be Legalized
By: Derek Zhang
Did you know there’s such thing as Cannabis (Marijuana) Day? It’s celebrated world-wide and was created because of the many supporters to legalizing marijuana who have persuaded officials to acknowledge the fact that you shouldn’t make marijuana completely illegal. On Cannabis Day, many citizens gather together and are allowed to use marijuana freely, in any way, which is a very important step in the development of legalizing marijuana. However, this is not enough. Marijuana needs to be legalized. Why should marijuana be treated more harshly when some other drugs are more dangerous and legal? Plus, it has many medical properties too and saves tax dollars on “No Marijuana” campaigns. It also releases the pot-related offenders which saves prison space and decreases the amount of prisons which saves the government money (and your taxes).
Studies show that over 100,000 Americans die annually from alcohol abuse yet none have died from marijuana-related incidents. Another study shows that the myth that marijuana is a gateway drug is false. Alcohol abuse also increases cancer risk. You could die from an overdose of alcohol but you can’t die from an overdose of marijuana. The effects of alcohol increase your violent behaviour, but when you use marijuana, you stay in control and keep your common sense. Marijuana is not addictive (and does not contain nicotine), yet alcohol is addictive. Marijuana does not contain nicotine yet tobacco does and is also legal and more dangerous than marijuana, yet both can be smoked. Roughly 5,000,000 people die each year from tobacco abuse. At the very least, we should make both of these harmful drugs illegal. Why should marijuana be illegal while alcohol and tobacco stay legal?
Marijuana doesn’t have to be used as an unhealthy drug. It comes from a very versatile and efficacious plant (Cannabis). Marijuana is also a very useful medical drug. It is used as a sleeping pill and an analgesic for pain. It can help cure some diseases such as Crohn’s disease, AIDS, cancer, bipolar disorder, memory enhancement, improves immune system, pre-menstrual syndrome, erectile dysfunction, glaucoma and reduces effects of chemotherapy. There is no feeling of being high when used for medical purposes. One of the most interesting uses for Cannabis is making paper from its high fibre content. Before it was banned, it replaced wood products and created by-products used for energy. Marijuana is useful for this purpose because it comes from a hearty plant (Cannabis). The hemp seeds that come from the Cannabis plant are used in many foods and contain many essential fatty acids and helps clear the body of bad cholesterol. The oil from the hemp seeds can be used to make paints and varnishes. The oil was also used for lighting before the introduction of the light bulb and is also a lubricant. Cannabis biomass can be used as fuel and does not produce harmful waste products or environmental pollution. The Cannabis biomass is the most efficient, cheapest and reliable to produce energy. 90% of fossil fuels could be replaced by biomass. Unfortunately, even Cannabis is illegal in most countries.
The most common marijuana users are teenagers. Why? The reason is because many teenagers suffer from depression. Marijuana is generally used as their antidepressant. Marijuana has fewer side effects too, which makes it more preferable than regular antidepressants. Teenagers also feel anger, stress, clutter and tension, which marijuana helps remove. Instead, they turn to alcohol and tobacco and get an addiction to those, when they’re much more dangerous. Marijuana is safer, more effective and it leaves you in control (unlike alcohol). A few marijuana users have said that marijuana heightens their creativity and imagination, enabling them to do more.
Marijuana is used as a less dangerous alternative to alcohol and tobacco. Cannabis Day is a time when it is celebrated for its unique uses and properties. Marijuana is not exactly healthy for anyone’s body, but it’s a better drug compared to alcohol and tobacco. It limits other unhealthier drugs that you could be tempted to use and does not tempt you to take “harder” drugs. Teenagers are given the choice of whether to do drugs or smoking or to avoid them. If they make the wrong choice of doing drugs or smoking, they might as well try and aim for the healthiest and less life-threatening choice. So why should marijuana stay illegal? You think about that.
Webpages & Tara November 27, 2008

Michael and 1337 have recently met Tara on MSN.
So, um, yeah. That’s pretty cool, no awkward questions from her at school after I told her it was just some camp friends.
I’m hoping that 1337 and Michael have kept their promises not to add her to their MSN list.
So, today in Computers, we were learning how to make webpages in “Claire Wordpage Creator”. Since we just started, it’s pretty plain. It’s just going to be about me and my life. Whoopie. -.- I really wish we could’ve personalized this, but I guess we can’t always get what we want.
I also learned how to use Microsoft Excel properly which is always fun.
Well, until next time..
Homework October 22, 2008

First off, we have to do a novel study on The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm.
We have to do a History Microsoft Powerpoint presentation on Transportation in New France due in 2 days.
CWA (Creative Writing Assignment) Assigned today, due in a week, topic has to be about horror, romance, horrific romance, or romantic horror.
I’m doing a romantic horror..er..horrific romance. I’m not sure which. We have to do a stupid CWA each month. >_<
And this whole time, I’ve been procrastinating by writing in my blag/blog.
I’ll probably post the story here.
The September one was just any subject and I feel it’s fairly horrible (even though I got the highest mark in the class, 92) so I’ll keep you from the insanity and pain of reading it.
And just to recap, our teacher marks our work like this:
1-4 : Not done
5: Level 1, HORRIBLE
6: Needs work
7: Good
8: Very good
9: Exceptional work
10: Don’t go there
Our teacher said no one has ever gotten a 10 before.
And he’s only given a 9 a few times. And he’s been teaching for over 10 years.
So, 92 is a pretty good mark.

Ouch. Yesterday, because of the hell known as Middle School, we had to get SHOTS. FOR MENANGITUS AND HEPATITUS B. My arms still hurt alot today. We had to pull up our sleeves and get the shots in our arms. We were told to “look away” which just made me even more nervous. I was a bit panicky during that time.
Anyway, I survived it. Hopefully my arms will stop hurting by tomorrow.

Are the reasons why I haven’t updated this in a while. I took a trip to Vancouver for a week and went to Music Camp for another week. I’ll write more about it later, but right now, it’s 1:43 a.m. and I’m tired…
Stereotypical Differences in the Society of School August 20, 2008

School is full of absolutely disrupting peer pressure. First off, puberty. School life’s stereotypical version of a regular child regarding puberty is grossed out, when really, we’re just extremely interested in it and just responding in what society would want us too. The same goes for girls and boys. They avoid each other because of the stereotypes put on them. If guys hang out with girls, they are insulted. If a girl hangs out with guys, they are also insulted. If guys hug other guys, stereotypes make it seem gay when girls are perfectly okay with hugging each other because of society. You, the reader, should ask yourself what have you done or not done because of the stereotypes? There are numerous things. Be sure to post them in the comments.

Eugh..TERRIBLE DAY. I was trying to clean my glasses with my shirt, right? But suddenly, the right frame snapped and now the right lense fell out. I attempted to get them attatched using glue but eww..it got all sticky and now my desk is a mess. Someone suggested duct tape, and I might try that, except clear tape, not duct tape.
Wish me luck..

Eugh .. because I have to get braces for my horrible, ugly, plaque-filled teeth I have to wear a stinking bionator.
Some perks:
1. People will actually talk to me.
Well, they’ll be insulting me, but at least it’s SOCIALIZING! ![]()
2. I can’t speak in it so I can completely zone out on things. ![]()
3. It hurts, but strengthening the physical condition of my teeth. ![]()
4. Spit gathers up in your mouth so it’s like your own personal drink in your mouth. ![]()
5. It’s plastic and metal! Who doesn’t love plastic and metal? Oh, and it costs $175! And who doesn’t love $175?
Some downfalls:
1. I get insulted at.
2. I can’t speak.
3. It hurts and makes my mouth sore.
4. Spit gathers and you DROWN IN IT.
5. It costs alot. ALOT. D:
6. I get insulted, I can’t speak, it hurts and makes my mouth sore, spit gathers up in it and I drown in it and did I mention it costs alot?
Blegh, My Sanity Has Been Destroyed By Music July 11, 2008

I look at my other blog posts, and I think to myself, “What. The. Hell.” I sound like a completely different person than I am right now. So strange..then I suddenly realise what made me this insane. MUSIC. I’ve been listening to my mp3 player while writing blogs, and I suddenly realised the music I listen to changes me into a mindfreak, who thinks too much. Linkin Park, Simple Plan, Coldplay, All-American Rejects and Greenday are apparently like cocaine inside my brain and ears.
Fun. Time to listen to more music.
Yay brainpower.
